I am typing this on my laptop from the terrace. There is a guy down there cleaning the pool. The sun is starting to get that late afternoon color. My coffee is cold but I am drinking it anyway.
My name is Javi. I help run this place. Villa La Mansión. Maybe you found us on Google Maps. Maybe someone sent you a link. I do not know how you got here but welcome.
I am supposed to write a blog post about luxury villas in Puerto Vallarta. That is what the internet people told me to do. But honestly I would rather just tell you how this actually works.
What Nobody Tells You About Villas
When people search for Puerto Vallarta villas they usually imagine something specific. Big house. Pool. View. Maybe a staff.
That is all true.
But here is what the websites do not tell you.
A villa is just a house. A really nice house with a really nice view but still a house. Things happen. The wifi goes out sometimes. A lizard gets inside and the kids lose their minds. The water pressure does whatever it wants.
The difference is what happens next.
At a resort you call the front desk and wait on hold. Maybe someone shows up in an hour. Maybe not.
Here you text me. I come over. We figure it out together. Usually I bring beer.
That is the real luxury. Not the marble countertops. Not the infinity pool. Having someone who actually gives a damn if you are having a good time.
Last Week
We had a family here from Chicago. Eight people. Three generations. The grandma’s 75th birthday.
First night they wanted to go to dinner somewhere nice. I sent them to this place in town. Small. Family owned. The owner is this tiny abuelita who will feed you until you beg her to stop.
They came back at midnight. Grandma was drunk. Not like falling down drunk but happy drunk. Singing. The grandkids were dying laughing taking videos.
She sent me a voicemail the next morning. I still have it. She said “mijo that was the best night of my whole life and I am not even kidding.”
That is the job right there. Making grandma sing.
The Chef Thing Because People Always Ask
You can hire a chef here. Lots of villas offer it. We do too.
But here is the real talk about that.
You do not want a chef every night. That would be weird and expensive and also you would miss the tacos.
What you want is maybe two or three nights. Big dinner nights. Nights when everyone is together and you want something special.
The chef comes in the afternoon. Brings groceries. Cooks all day. You smell everything happening and you get hungrier and hungrier. Then you sit down and eat for like three hours and nobody checks their phone.
One time a guy proposed during dinner. The chef knew. He made this whole special dessert with something written on the plate. The girl cried. The guy tipped everybody a thousand dollars. True story.
Weddings Here
We do weddings sometimes.
Not the big ones with two hundred people and a planner with a headset. Small ones. Fifty people max. People who actually know each other.
Last year we had a couple from Canada. They got married right there by the pool. Sunset. Simple dress. The groom cried during the vows which honestly is my favorite thing.
Afterwards everyone just stayed. Drank wine. Someone played guitar. The bride’s dad gave a speech that went on way too long but nobody cared because the sunset was doing its thing.
At midnight I found the bride and groom sitting on the edge of the pool with their feet in the water. Just the two of them. Watching the party from far away.
She looked at me and said “I am so glad we did not do this at a hotel.”
That is why we do what we do.
Buying vs Renting
I know some of you are looking at Puerto Vallarta real estate. Homes for sale. All that.
Here is my advice
Rent first. For real. Come stay for a week. Or two weeks if you can. See how it feels.
December is different than June. The neighborhoods are different. What you want in a vacation house is different than what you want in a rental.
We have had guests who rented from us and then bought houses down the street. They still text me with questions. Where to get good tortillas. Who fixes AC units. Whatever.
That is fine. I like it actually.
The Honest Part
I am supposed to sell you on why our villa is the best. Why you should book with us.
Here is the truth.
There are a lot of nice villas here. Really nice ones. Some have better views. Some have fancier kitchens. Some have bigger pools.
What we have is me. And my team. People who actually live here and actually care.
When you book with us you get my phone number. You get someone who will come over at 10pm because the remote for the TV is not working and the kids are losing their minds. You get someone who knows which taco stands are actually good and which ones are just for tourists.
That matters. At least I think it matters.
If You Come
If you end up staying here, here is what I want you to do.
Wake up early one day. Earlier than you want to. Go sit on the terrace with coffee and just watch. The light comes in different. The water changes color. The fishing boats go out.
Do not take your phone. Just sit there.
That is the thing people miss when they do the resort thing. That quiet. That pause. That moment where you are not doing anything and it feels perfect.
Then later go get tacos. I will tell you where.
Final Words I Guess
I do not know if this is what a blog post is supposed to be. Probably not. There is no list of amenities or bullet points about why we are great.
But if you are still reading this, maybe you are the kind of person who would like it here.
Not because the pool is nice (it is) or the view is amazing (it is) but because when you show up, someone will actually be glad to see you.
That is the whole thing really.
